GIG REVIEW: The Coral - Live @ Leeds University 13th Oct.

The Leeds University is a strange venue for a gig, in a day no doubt a bustling refectory full of skint students stuffing their faces with cheap burgers, shakes and other delights, by night however - it turns into a slippery floored affair. The gig itself, was the most mellow - non violent gig I have been to in a long time, maybe because the age range differed, maybe it was to do with the Coral - hardly the most full on - turn it up to 11 band going.
Which, to be fair, is part of their charm - most of their "hits" (which is a term used very loosely here) were knocked out with pitch precision along with a few surprises - some old EP only tracks, or early b-sides.
So, the gig was good - unfortunately my enjoyment was slightly marred by the appearance of a Mexican looking man wearing a far too shiny leather coat (who I’m sure was named Pedro) dancing like he had never even heard the songs. To be fair, he was probably pilled off his tits. The bar, to be fair is a joke - nearly £3 for "nearly a pint" which was squeezed out of a warm can and was half head.

Although the B-sides were a nice addition to the set - I would have preferred to hear some other tracks, some more off their 'cerrazy' Nightfreak album, Arabian Sand and of course - Skeleton Key. Of course, I did have an air of smugness knowing that having seen this band previously I have already witnessed these tracks the hungry crowd wanted so much at other gigs of theirs.

I read in an interview a year or so ago - the Coral were going to give it all up and settle into obscurity. Judging by this, that could be the biggest mistake they ever make.
